KALACHAKRA DEITY
Description
A master level thangka of the Kalacakra deity painstakingly rendered with dot-shading in the traditional Tibetan style. Kalacakra is a yidam, a personal protector deity, and among the favourites of the Gelugpa lineage. The Dalai Lama often gives Kalacakra initiations. Kalacakra can be identified by the four heads, twelve pairs of arms and single pair of legs, and stands in yabyum with his partner Vishvamata, the Mother of All. Below his left feet lies a vanquished Rudra, below the right Kamadeva and both Hindu deities. Tsongkhapa, the founder of the Gelugpa lineage can be seen above.
